Silver City Minerals Limited

Variscan has a significant stake in Silver City Minerals Ltd (ASX Code: SCI), formed to explore for Broken Hill type deposits in the Broken Hill district of NSW. Silver City has a very large tenement holding and since listing on the ASX in July 2011 has undertaken an aggressive exploration programme over a range of quality drill targets. Silver City is applying new exploration technologies (e.g. the Niton hand-held XRF geochemical tool) and advances in conceptual mineralisation models to explore for significant new deposits in this important region.

One of the company’s principal targets is the Razorback West Corridor, a poorly exposed and explored belt of rock which is likely to be the northern, fault off-set, extension of the Broken Hill “line-of-lode”, the geological corridor which hosts the giant Broken Hill orebody. SCI has already identified a combined geophysical and geochemical anomaly which extends for 5 kilometres and is 1 kilometre wide. A moving-loop electromagnetic survey designed to detect conductive sulphide bodies has been completed and has identified subtle, but persistent patterns of anomalism which correlate well with known zones of zinc-lead-manganese and garnet-rich alteration. The new EM conductors, while subtle in character, display good spatial coincidence with elevated base metal mineralisation outlined in previous drilling which might relate to zinc-rich sulphide accumulations at depth.
